Friends Good Will

The original Friends Good Will was built in 1811 and earned fame for its role in the War of 1812.  The Michigan Maritime Museum commissioned Scarano Boat to design and build this faithful replica which was launched in 2004 and is used for educational sails, passenger sails, dockside boardings, charters, weddings, and conferences. Friends Good Will is constructed of laminated wood with outer layers, decks, and upper works built to emulate the historically accurate construction detailing of early 19th-century vessels. The Michigan Maritime Museum uses Friends Good Will for educational sails, passenger sails, dockside boardings, charters, weddings, and conferences.

The original Friends Good Will was part of the British Fleet at the battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812 and is the sloop mentioned in Commodore Perryʼs now famous dispatch, “We have met the enemy and they are ours: Two ships, two brigs, one schooner, and a sloop.”
